This patent was selected among a lot of other patents worldwide, for its originality and utility.

By purchasing this innovative lid you should forget the smoker which is not needed any more, except when you need to pull the trays out of the hive. All work can be done even under adverse weather conditions and at any time (even during night hours) without smoking.

The invention is generally mentioned to a bee-hive especially though to its lid, that bears a roof that opens and closes. Underneath the roof there are vessels and an opening with a removable cover.

In the existing hives, the only thing that the cover offers is to cover the body of the hive and to give the possibility to the air to come in and out the ventilation doors. In order to perform any work with bees, the cover must be removed from the body of the hive in a violent way, because it is glued by the bees with propolis, resulting thus to the bees being stimulated and disturbed, a lot of time and work needed by the beekeeper and smoking is getting compulsory. Smoking though, results in transporting toxic substances to the bee-products. The stimulation provoked results in consuming honey and pollen by the bees, some deaths of the bees and looting by the neighboring colonies.

The beehive lid, according to the present invention, doesn’t only cover the body of the hive, but also enables all the tasks inside the hive to be done under any weather conditions, without removing the lid (cover). In this way, smoking is not compulsory, less work and time are needed for the beekeeper, the colony isn’t stimulated and the consumption of honey and pollen are avoided, as well as looting from hear-by colonies. Furthermore with this lid, the beekeeper prevents diseases of the bee-colony, because the lid enables him to check visually the bees inside the hive, for as long as he needs, without disturbing or being disturbed by the bees. The lid of the present invention is only removed when it is needed to add or remove more frames into or out of the beehive body for any reason.

With the new revolutionary lid the beekeeper may watch, feed, check or do anything else needed in the hive without disturbing the bees, without smoking them and without removing the lid, in an easy and quick way.

The fact that there is no need for smoking, results in not transferring toxic leftovers to the products of the hive (honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, wax).

a) better insulation in the beehive
b) more proper and better ventilation

i) production of healthier products since the smoking and drug use are significantly reduced
j) respect for the rules of the bees’ welfare and improvement in the microclimate of the beehive
k) direct and quick check of the interior of the beehive.
l) rapid growth of the population of the swarm of bees by at least 40%
m) prevention of looting (the lid in not removed during work)
n) easy and quick deposition of solid and liquid food – water with simultaneous direct and quick check of the beehive (inspection)
o) economic benefits at least ……………. (we let the user to fill it).
Proper placement and use of the lid, according to the previous instructions are prerequisites in order to highlight its advantages and obtain the results reported previously. The company bears no responsibility for failure to obtain the expected results or for any technical or other problem which shall occur in the future if such are the result of improper placement or use of the lid.

Instruction Manual

You may see the numeration of the several parts of the lid on the following …………..

I) Use of the liquid deposition trough (3)
By lifting the roof of the lid (1), without smoking and bothering the swarm of bees, in any weather conditions and time, after you open first the two clips (7) on the right and left that lock it, there is a 2,5 – 3 liter capacity trough (3) which is used for the deposition of liquid sugars (syrup) or water when your beehive needs it.
There is the possibility to place syrup in the trough, to which a new drug for treatment of possible diseases is added, according to your veterinarian’s instructions.

II) Use of transparent glass (5)
Following the trough (3), cited above, there is a transparent glass (5) that opens and closes and offers you the possibility to monitor and control the health and population status of the swarm of bees without disturbing it and:
a) by opening the transparent glass (5) you could place dough (pie) onto the trays of the beehive,
b) to sprinkle your apiary with all that is needed for stimulation,
c) to sprinkle your apiary with a proper pharmaceutical preparation for treatment, in accordance with your veterinarian’s instructions,
d) to place inside your beehive any pharmaceutical preparation recommended by your veterinarian,
e) you could combine any of the above actions done either using the liquid deposition trough (3) or using the transparent glass (5) simultaneously.

III) Windows in the ventilation ports (8)
You either open or close the windows (8) present in the ventilation ports depending on the external weather conditions, in order to help the swarm of bees to preserve the ideal conditions inside the beehive. When moving your apiary, your windows should be fixed in an open position. Depending on the wind’s direction and the general external weather conditions you could either open or close whichever of the four windows (8) present in the ventilation ports at your discretion.

IV) Additional insulation of the product
You could, if you consider it necessary to protect the lid or your swarm of bees, place any insulation externally, but carefully in order not to interfere with its proper operation and not to alter it. There is also provision for the placement of extra insulation that could not cause problems to the manufacturing material of the lid:
a. around the base (6) after you carefully remove first the two bottom circumferential lids (9) and
b. on the roof (1) after you carefully remove the inner insulation (2)
After placing the insulation, the removable parts should be replaced with proper attention and into the correct position.

With the proper use of the new “BeeNectar Lid” lid all the above is achieved at a time at least 90% LESS than the current known means. Due to the aforementioned properties, but also to the lid’s constructional quality the below benefits-advantages have been scientifically measured.

The Genius Lid

The placement of the syrup which stimulates the bee queen in order to give birth, should preferably be done many times, even every day (unless you deem otherwise) starting from 200 grams and depending on the population growth we increase the amount of syrup, in order to meet the needs of the swarm of bees. Even better the stimulation can be done by sprinkling the swarm of bees with the syrup at a temperature of about 35οC inside the glass.
The amount of syrup you shall place in order to reduce the consumption of honey during its maturation, it is up to your discretion.
The amount of syrup you shall place to build your bee waxes off-season (given that there is pollen) should at least be a kilo each day for at least seven days.
The amount of syrup you shall place to feed your beehive should be proportionate to its population, which you control by watching through the transparent glass (5) directly when you place the syrup. Also, the amount can be determined, depending on your experience and your goal, by checking on your next visit how well or not the syrup has been absorbed by your apiary.
The placement of water in the trough (3) helps prevent transmission of diseases in your swarm of bees from contaminated water and at the same time relieves them from unnecessary transportation.
You should control the population of your swarm of bees and record it either electronically or on the internal insulation of the roof (2) with a marker (which later can be erased with alcohol) since there is a unique numbering printed with laser on the periphery of the lid base ( 6) of each lid. (Also with the numbering, your personal information is printed, protecting proprietorship of your lid). In this way, on your next visit you shall know the evolution of the population of your swarm of bees. If the population of your swarm of bees has dropped while it should have been increased after you check first all your beehives (to avoid stimulation and looting), then you return to the swarms of bees in which the population has been decreased. If it is necessary, remove from your problematic beehives even the honeycombs, after you move them to another area outside you apiary and consult your veterinary, in order to prevent in case of a disease, its transmission to the remaining swarms of bees. Thereby the spread of a possible disease at your apiary is prevented, the use of much less drugs is accomplished and you shall always have healthy beehives.

Placement instructions of the lid on the beehive

I) Fixing the lid on the beehive
First you should aim with precision the points where you should open the holes needed (between the air ducts (10) on the base of the lid (6) on both sides), in relation to the retention system you want to place. Then you should drill to a depth 25 mm using a drill with a thickness of at least half a millimeter smaller than the screw you want to fit, drill depth 25 mm (millimeters). Then you should pass screws 25 mm (millimeters) long and 3 mm (millimeters) thick or according to your assessment. You could also drill through and insert a screw with a nut inside.
Caution: the improper placement of the connectors on the lid or the placement of the lid on a deformed beehive can result in its medium-long term deformation.

II) Placement
The lid is always placed so that the liquid deposition trough (3) is to the rear of the beehive, that is not to the entry-exit port input gate of the bees

III) Extraction
The lid is extracted by placing the scraper in one of the four slots (11) which are laterally on the longitudinal sides and always after you have closed and locked the roof with the roof locking clips (7).

Protection of the lid

  • CAUTION! The lid should not be cut with sharp objects and the use of the transparent glass (5) should be made with extreme caution (opening – closing).
  • The placement of hot objects, such as smoker, torch etc., on the lid or its parts is prohibited.
  • The package of ten items must be kept in place without humidity, extreme temperature, shocks and intense stresses.

Maintenance of the lid

The lid does not need any special maintenance if the instruction manual is strictly followed.
The manufacturing materials provide all the necessary guarantees for the lid’s long-term use.
In case cleaning of the lid is required, it is suggested this to be done with the use of a clean sponge and hot water. If necessary, after removing the lid from the beehive you could wash separately every component with the use of hot water and a sponge any by removing it carefully in order to avoid its breakage. Be careful while you replace the components in order to the retaining feet to be in the right position to avoid their twisting or breakage.

With the purchase of any lid a 5 years warranty of proper function is provided.
The warranty requires the placement and use of the lid to a LR beehive or any other beehive type that can be applied with the same advantages, should the rules written in the installation, maintenance and protection instructions, are accurately followed.
The product withstands temperatures of -40°C to +60°C. At low temperatures its exposure to intense and abrupt shocks should be avoided. There is also no warranty provision for cutting with sharp objects and for any damage that would occur from improper use. The warranty does not cover for loss of components, but there shall be continuous support of spare parts that you may need (either you lost them or they broke).
During the warranty period, we undertake to repair free of charge, any damage exclusively due to manufacturing fault. The transportation costs are exclusively borne by the purchaser. Claims that differ from or extend beyond this warranty shall be excluded, except for those expressly provided for by the provisions of the applicable law. We reserve the right to determine the way, time and place of repair at our discretion.

The company bears no responsibility for failure to obtain the expected results or for any technical or other problem, which shall occur in the future, if such are the result of improper placement or use of the lid.
